Is the World of Color Dessert Party Worth It?
Updated May 2026 | Disneyland® Resort 70th Anniversary Celebration
There are Disney experiences you do once and check off the list. And then there are the ones you find yourself booking again before you have even left the resort. The World of Color Dessert Party at Disney California Adventure® Park falls firmly into the second category.
We attended for the first time in May 2024, when World of Color – ONE was the show on the schedule. We loved it so much that we came back in May 2026 for World of Color Happiness!, the brand-new version created for the Disneyland® Resort 70th Anniversary Celebration. Two different shows. Two different years. The same verdict both times: absolutely worth it.
That is not a throwaway endorsement. As a Disney travel professional, I am selective about which upcharge experiences I genuinely recommend to the families I work with. This one has earned its place on the list, no matter which version of the show is running during your visit.
Let me break down exactly why, and give you everything you need to decide whether it belongs in your itinerary.
What Is World of Color?
World of Color is one of Disneyland® Resort's most iconic nighttime spectaculars, and it is exclusive to Disney California Adventure® Park. You cannot see it at Walt Disney World® Resort. It is a large-scale show performed on the lagoon in Paradise Gardens Park, featuring water screens, projected imagery, fountains, fire effects, colorful lasers, and music. It is one of those shows that is genuinely unlike anything else in the Disney park lineup.
The show has gone through several versions over the years. Right now, the current version is World of Color Happiness!, which debuted May 16, 2025 as part of the 70th Anniversary Celebration. It is inspired by Walt Disney's opening-day dedication of Disneyland®: "To all who come to this happy place... welcome!" and is hosted by Joy and the other emotions from Inside Out. It is scheduled to run through August 2026, so if your Disneyland trip falls within that window, this is the version you will experience.
We loved both World of Color – ONE and World of Color Happiness!, and our recommendation is the same regardless of which version is on the schedule when you visit: do the Dessert Party at least once. The show will be spectacular. The experience around it is what makes it truly memorable.
What Is the World of Color Dessert Party?
The World of Color Dessert Party is a separately ticketed add-on that includes reserved seating in the World of Color preferred viewing area at Paradise Gardens Park, a curated food and beverage spread, and a far more relaxed end to a long park day than jostling for a standing spot in the general viewing area. You purchase it in addition to your park ticket, and it covers your food, drinks, and seating for the evening.

The Show Itself: Immersive, Family-Friendly, and Consistently Stunning
Both versions of the show we experienced leaned toward a younger audience, which makes World of Color an especially strong choice for families with little ones. The storytelling is accessible, the pacing keeps kids engaged, and the mix of beloved films means there is something for everyone.
What makes it stand out is how immersive it is. This is not a show you passively watch. The combination of the water screens, the music, the lighting, and the bubbles that drift into the crowd creates a full sensory experience. Both times we attended, we were completely absorbed in it, and so were our kids.
We loved both versions. That consistency across two different shows, two different years, tells you something important: the World of Color experience reliably delivers, and the Dessert Party makes it even better every time.
The Food and Drinks: Good, Not Extraordinary, but Genuinely Enjoyable

The food spread is not the reason you book this experience, and we will be upfront about that. It is good, it fits the moment perfectly, and it adds real value to the ticket price, but it is not a dinner replacement. Think of it as your dessert course for the evening after a real meal earlier in the park.
What is included in the current package:
Artisan charcuterie and cheeses with seasonal jam and crackers
A colorful themed dessert selection (the desserts are the highlight and fit the celebratory end-of-day feel perfectly)
A collectible FiGPiN exclusive to the 70th Anniversary Celebration (full-color is most common; glitter is rare; gold tone is ultra rare)
Wine, sparkling wine, beer, or a World of Color seasonal cocktail for guests ages 21 and older
Non-alcoholic specialty mocktails, coffee, tea, and soft drinks
Allergy-friendly and plant-based options available with advance request
Our honest advice: eat a real meal in the park before you arrive. The savory charcuterie board is a nice complement if you arrive a little hungry, and the desserts are genuinely enjoyable. But the food alone would not justify the ticket price. What justifies it is everything else.
The Service: This Is What Sets It Apart
One of the things that genuinely surprised us was how much the service elevated the overall experience. Our Cast Member was exceptional, attentive and warm in a way that felt personal rather than just professional. It is the kind of service that makes your family feel genuinely cared for rather than processed through a ticketed event.
They also took a family photo for us, which is one of those small touches that means everything when you are trying to actually be present in a moment rather than scrambling to capture it yourself. We have a photo from that evening that is one of our favorite memories from the entire trip. That kind of moment does not show up in a price breakdown, but it is very much part of what you are paying for.
Why the Dessert Party Format Works So Well for Families
Here is the part that does not always get enough attention in reviews: by the time World of Color starts, your family has likely been in the parks for many hours. Everyone is tired. The kids are running on fumes and Disney adrenaline. The last thing you want is to stand in a crowd and fight for sightlines while managing an overstimulated toddler.
The Dessert Party solves that problem completely. You have a reserved spot. You sit down. Someone brings you food and drinks. The show starts. After a full day on your feet, the ability to just sit, breathe, eat something, and watch something genuinely beautiful unfold in front of you is worth a significant portion of that ticket price on its own.
Both times we attended it was the perfect way to close out a long park day. Relaxed, memorable, and something our whole family looked forward to the moment we booked it.
How the Experience Works: The Logistics
Knowing the process ahead of time makes the evening genuinely smoother. Here is exactly what to expect:
Making Your Reservation
Reservations open 60 days in advance through the Disneyland website or the Disneyland app. Full payment is due at booking. Same-day reservations occasionally appear but are rare, especially during the 70th Anniversary Celebration. Book at the 60-day mark if possible, ideally right when that window opens. This sells out.
Check-In on the Day
Mobile check-in opens two hours before your reservation time via the Disneyland app. You will receive a series of text updates confirming your check-in, telling you which entrance to use, and notifying you when your table is ready. Check in at the Eureka water wheel near Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. Arrive on time since Disney cannot accommodate early or late arrivals.
Choosing Your Seat
Seating within the reserved area is first-come, first-served, so arriving promptly gives you the best pick. You can choose between folding chairs at standard tables or director's chairs at high-top tables. Cast Members consistently recommend the high-tops for the best sightlines, and the chairs are comfortable with armrests. Note that seating is communal, so your family may be seated alongside another party.
The Show
The show begins approximately 45 minutes after your dessert party reservation time, giving you time to settle in and decompress before the lights go down. The show runs once or twice per night depending on the date. Check the Disneyland app for exact showtimes after you arrive at the resort.
Is the World of Color Dessert Party Worth It?
Yes. And the fact that we have done it twice across two completely different versions of the show and would do it a third time says more than any review paragraph can.
It is costly, and we will not pretend otherwise. At $94 per person, a family of four is looking at a meaningful investment on top of an already full park day budget. But the combination of reserved comfortable seating, a genuinely immersive show, an enjoyable food and drink spread, exceptional service, and that perfect end-of-day feeling makes this one of the experiences we plan for and budget for intentionally every time we visit Disneyland® Resort.
And here is the thing we want you to take away: our recommendation is not tied to any specific version of the show. We loved World of Color – ONE. We loved World of Color Happiness!. The Dessert Party made both experiences something our family will talk about for years. Whatever version is running when you visit, the format works.
Do It at Least Once If You:
Are visiting Disneyland® Resort for the first time and want to experience World of Color the right way
Are celebrating something special, whether it is a birthday, anniversary, or milestone trip
Have young children who need a seated, low-stress end to a long park day
Do not want to navigate the virtual queue or arrive early to stake out a viewing spot
Want one guaranteed magical moment that your family will actually remember
You Might Skip It If:
You visit Disneyland® Resort frequently and are comfortable with the virtual queue system
You are managing a tight trip budget and need to prioritize elsewhere
Your primary motivation is the food (the parks offer excellent treats throughout and the dessert party spread, while good, is not the most memorable thing you will eat that day)
If you are on the fence, our answer is simple: do it at least once. We think you will find yourself booking it again too.
Can You See World of Color Without the Dessert Party?
Yes, the show is included with your Disney California Adventure® Park admission. A virtual queue gives guests the opportunity to secure a spot in one of two general viewing areas. The views can be excellent, and guests toward the front should know they may get a little wet from the fountains, which the kids tend to love.
There are also dining packages available at nearby restaurants, including Wine Country Trattoria, which offers a three-course prix fixe meal with preferred show viewing for approximately $73 per adult. Magic Key annual pass holders also have access to a separate dining package at the Magic Key Terrace. These are worth considering if a full dinner experience appeals to you more than the dessert party format.
For guests making a once-in-a-while trip or celebrating something meaningful, the Dessert Party's guaranteed reserved seating eliminates all the uncertainty and lets you focus entirely on the experience rather than the logistics.
Practical Tips from Someone Who Has Done This Twice
Book at the 60-day mark. Log into the Disneyland app or Disneyland.com as soon as your booking window opens. This sells out, especially during the 70th Anniversary Celebration and on weekends.
Eat a real meal in the park before you arrive. Treat the Dessert Party as your evening dessert course, not dinner.
Request dietary accommodations when booking. Disney can accommodate gluten-free, allergy-friendly, and plant-based needs with advance notice. Same-day requests cannot be guaranteed.
Go for the high-top tables. Cast Members consistently recommend them for the best sightlines and the director's chairs are more comfortable than they look.
Download the Disneyland app and enable notifications before your trip. Your entire check-in experience runs through the app and text messages.
Plan the Dessert Party as your last event of the evening. It is a natural, beautiful way to close a park day and you will not want to rush out afterward.
If your Cast Member goes above and beyond, tip them. The service is a real part of what makes this experience special.
Guests ages 21 and older need a valid government ID for alcoholic beverages. International guests must bring their original passport.
